As with any recent news of a celebrity who went through a plastic surgery procedure and managed to get society talking about her for weeks, social media websites create the same kind of hype whenever they undergo a new change. Our society is all about "bigger and better and newer." Although in the case of social media websites such as Facebook or Twitter, no one ever seems to like change because they claim it was difficult enough to get used to one change, when another change crept up soon after. Personally, I think that the changes occur as a business motive, with the intentions of keeping users online for longer periods of time. Because websites like Facebook have become so personal for users, users still keep up/put up with the changes and adapt to these re-designing ways.

The obvious notion of social media being not only important, but also a very useful form of reaching out to audience is not an idea that just came into play. Social media really has created a spotlight for itself in the sense that much of today's society revolves around it. What is important to note here, is that social media can also backfire, especially if the wrong approaches are taken. Sure, it can open the door to information sharing, networking, etc but if one doesn't incorporate that "heartfelt" message within their advertisement, then it might be best to not utilize social media at all because the attention of audiences will not be captured and in turn will create a negative connotation towards the company, etc.

When I think of keywords in SEO, I think of Google and its search box. When tying in the first two words of interest, the famous "filler sentences" can either be really accurate or even correct a search thought that we couldn't think of at the moment. I know that when I'm trying to remember a certain song or general fact, I type in the first few words and 99.9% of the time, I get the information I'm looking for. This is closely related to the notion of SEO and how many people will not take the time to go past 5 pages of the search. We all usually go with the first 3 options, and assume that it is the most accurate information.

Blogs truly are crucial especially for a start-up group who is trying to create their very own brand image. Whether the blog is created for the purpose of providing a "personality" for a single person or a company, it allows for the chance of putting out your ideas of expertise on art, cooking, business strategies, etc. A good example of this could be Tumblr, which allows people to voice their opinions of a particular subject or area of expertise. By doing so, you can create more publicity for yourself and a community of consistent followers as well.

Hands down one of the best brand building, marketing tools!

Videos are an entertaining and informative source of communication. By giving the customer or employees something to watch, a business can tailor messages more effectively. Aside from in person, what better way of demonstrating a product use is there than by literally showing them?

Furthermore, the effort and time that go into producing a quality video can reflect the quality of the product. Videos add to the entire package of a product; the great lengths a company takes in making a demonstrative video carry over to the customer's perceived product quality.

The ability to link blog content across the web is one of the most valuable and attractive aspects of blogs.

People want to feel connected; that their opinions are listened to and supported. And blogs provide content doing just that. Although it probably helps in the long run; blogs don't really have to be factual, just opinionated. So when readers and people just looking to support their own opinions come across a blog they like, they can feel validated.

Here's where the marketing comes in - as a business, whose opinions do you want to validate? And where are they looking?

The idea of 'heartfelt messages' and an ability to actually communicate with the customer, can lead to a broader understanding of social media as something greater than the constraints of ROI. The most successful social media campaigns have been those that shift the voice from the company to the consumer, without any apparent concern for sales.

It isn't just the company that wants its presence felt, but the consumer and social media user as well. By creating heartfelt messages that a consumer can interact with and lend opinion on...a business can make that customer feel special.

This is interesting because I never really understood what QR codes are used for and when to use them. The most I saw these codes were at Starbucks when you would order it off your phone and they would scan your phone. It really is a great marketing strategy to use - if you use them appropriately.

I really liked the HARO website! This post really contributes to what we are working on in our PR class. We all have our groups set up - and our company that are we publicizing. We need a target market - we need to know what age range we want to aim for, for the company.

This post gives some really good advice on how to get great media coverage, which is in fact our goal.
