Here’s a note from Irv Hamilton…
Our most recent blog quotes a marketing expert as saying that with digital marketing “. . . we are talking to the individual buyers directly.”
That quote caught my attention because next week I’ll be hosting a workshop on heritage tourism at the California Preservation Foundation’s annual conference in Grass Valley.
We’ll be talking about heritage tourism, and ways that smaller communities can attract visitors with historic and cultural attractions.
I agree with the quote that in today’s marketing environment we’re talking with individual travelers, not just the tens of thousands of readers or viewers that make up the total audience of a publication or television program.
But if we’re talking one to one, we have to remember that we must speak to each “one” in their language and with messages that are appropriate to the specific interests of that single traveler.
The intent of doing so is to initiate a dialog. We want to get prospective visitors to know us. If they do, then we can show them the historic sites found in our community. We can share with them the many things that appeal to us about the place where we live or work.
So, if you’re in the neighborhood, from May 12 to 15, come join us in Grass Valley and Nevada City.
