LinkedIn has legs.

What do you use LinkedIn for?  I’ve been talking to Elliot Kallen, Chuck Ballweg and Yvette Mays of Prosperity Financial Group about the advantages of being listed in LinkedIn. So, LinkedIn has been on my mind.

I’ve read a couple of really good articles about LinkedIn recently (that I linked to below). The key point each of them makes is that LinkedIn has a place along with Facebook, MySpace and Twitter– and that place is WORK! LinkedIn is where you want to have your resume, your information about your company and your contacts.

LinkedIn, a creaky social net that works.
Here’s what DM Confidential has to say… “Despite its age, though, LinkedIn has yet to hit its prime. It’s definitely older not just in chronological age but feel, not nearly as hip, the networking PC to the Mac, but like a Timex watch, it takes a lickin’ and keep on tickin.’ More importantly, almost everybody in our space uses it, and they use it for what they should – work.”

LinkedIn—Secrets for PR.
Social Networking Expert Chuck Hester says, “LinkedIn is a business-related network, and I find it’s better than Facebook and Twitter for B-to-B communications. I use LinkedIn and Twitter in conjunction for business purposes and to promote my book or company. But I only use Facebook to connect with family and friends. Facebook is more of a casual social network. When LinkedIn was first developed, the founders were looking to create a business network. All the features are directed toward that. All of your connections with LinkedIn users revolve around business applications. For example, your profile is essentially an online resume. On your page, you can also post events, conferences, answers to specific business questions and more. LinkedIn also offers opportunities for users to click back to your e-commerce or company sites. There’s a ‘Jobs’ section and a beefed up ‘Company’ section, so that team members can link together”

At Placemaking Group, we use it to find contractors with special skill sets or geographic locations. It’s also a great way to get information out to your contacts. BTW, if you want to see my LinkedIn Profile click here!
