Lee Solters restored Frank Sinatra’s reputation with good understated PR.

Who was the PR agent who helped bring Frank Sinatra’s reputation and career back to life?  That would be Lee Solters.

One of my heroes passed away this week. Lee Solters, 89, was part of the world of Broadway “flacks” in the ’40s and ’50s, getting his shows and clients mentioned in the newspaper columns that everyone was reading. And he would come up with great ideas…       (more…)

Build your brand using PR.

“Can anyone name any brands that have gotten famous for something using PR alone?” Nicola Gibb, Associate Director at Resonate in the UK, asked that question through LinkedIn.

How nice of her! That’s one of my favorite concepts. I saw it originally addressed in Al and Laura Ries’ book, “The Fall of Advertising and the Rise of PR.”

They made it very clear that there is not enough money available to build a brand just using advertising. OK, that sounds logical. But then they went on to show that very successful companies can start with just PR.          (more…)
